Mountain Bike - Example

Mountain bike usually have wider tires. For riding off-road, use knobby tires. If you are riding mainly on roads and bike paths, use smooth tires. For racing, the rider raises the seat and is positioned pretty far forward. However, many mountain bikes have rising handlebars and stems, which allow for an upright position much like a hybrid bike.

Road Bike - Example

This is an example of Road Bike. On our site, "Road" bikes mean bikes that usually have drop handlebars (curved down) and thin tires. They are great for getting where you want to go quickly. There are many exceptions to this though. It is common to retrofit older road bikes with slightly thicker tires and flat bars to make them more comfortable as commuters. Some riders find road bikes very comfortable for their powerful riding position and agility. However, others have a hard time getting used to the more forward, less upright position that most road bikes demand. On this site, many Single Speeds will be classified as road bikes if they are built on road frames, but road bikes also include classic 10-speeds and other with up to 30 gear combinations. We usually have 4 to 6 road bikes ready each week and try to keep a variety of sizes.

This is an example of a Cruiser. Cruiser - as used a category on this site - refers to Beach Bikes, Classic 3-speeds, some City Bikes, and others. These come into the shop fairly regularly, and we usually have at least one or two ready each week, often more.
