Outreach
Ongoing help is needed to coordinate and facilitate our community events, including Working Wheels and Family Mechanics Workshops, Community BBQs, and teen events like the amazing race. We are especially in need of translators and other good talkers, as well as mechanics and anyone able to help with transportation of bikes and equipment. If you're interested in helping, let us know how and we'll keep you updated as events get scheduled.
Mentoring - In-Depth
Phoenix Bikes works to set up dedicated students with mentors that can help keep them on track in and out of the shop. This is a very important link in our enriched youth development program, focusing on goal setting, professional development and community service. Our mentor program is not yet set-up, but if you would like to be a mentor in the future, sign on and we’ll keep you updated.
Team Leader
We are now looking for someone with experience with groups of teens to work with our youth mechanics once or twice a month on team work, positive communication, goal setting, community service, or conflict resolution.
Tuesday or Thursday: 4 – 5 pm, flexible
Volunteer Coordinator
Mentors & Bike Ride Volunteers are crucial to the success of Phoenix Bikes youth programs. And we need help recruiting them and making sure we get them where we need them to be! If you're organized and great with both details and people, this could be a fun volunteer opportunity for you to make a big impact on youth in our community.
Flexible Schedule.
Web Outreach
Phoenix Bikes is a unique organization: both commercial and educational. As such, we have a broad range of 'clients' - teens, parents, cycling, foundations, donors, mechanics, etc. - and our web outreach is where many get most of their information. We need help keeping things up to date - student profiles, bikes in the shop, community events - and reaching out to to new groups. This opportunity is perfect for someone with experience in PR that is looking for work for positive change in DC metro, or for a student looking to gain experience in community outreach, writing and web marketing.
Web development experience is a plus, but not necessary. We can teach you many of the skills necessary if you are willing to learn and have other skills to offer!
Flexible Schedule.
Grant Writer
In order to enrich and expand education programs, Phoenix works with foundations and public agencies to find support for its work building strong leaders (and cyclists) in Arlington and DC Metro region. If you have experience with grant writing and/or program development, your help can have a significant impact!
Grant Writing volunteer should have strong writing skills; prior experience with grant writing is a plus!
Flexible Schedule.
Fundraising - Donor Management Volunteer
Phoenix Bikes service to youth and the cycling community is sustained by shop revenue, public support, and private donation. But we know bikes better than we do fundraising. If you are organized, a people person, and have experience with fundraising and donor management, your help is valuable to the teenagers and bikers of DC metro region!
Flexible Schedule.
